Dog

My dog after a long day of cider

As a dog lover, a couple of events coming up this summer have caught my eye. The first is the ?Canines Uncorked? License to Taste Passport and Wine Tour, which benefits the Oregon Humane Society.

The event features complimentary wine tastings and activities for dog owners and their pets at more than a dozen dog-friendly wineries. ?Guests and their furry friends will enjoy food, contests and special activities for $40, with 100% of proceeds benefitting the Oregon Humane Society.?

Last year the event attracted more than 200 dog owners and their pets.? The Canines Uncorked??License to Taste? Passport and Wine Tour Guide can be purchased in advance from the Oregon Humane Society.? The Passport is $40 and provides complete information about each winery and the special doggie activities taking place.

The wineries joining us for Canines Uncorked this year include:

What: Canines Uncorked Wine Tour of dog-friendly wineries that welcome you and your furry friends with food, contests, and special activities.

When: Saturday, July 20, 2013; 11 am?4 pm

Where: The wineries are in the North Willamette Valley region and will be announced soon!

Next, the Portland Cider Summit, which has just expanded to two days ? June 21st and June 22nd at the South Waterfront. The event benefits the Northwest Cider Association, DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital and The Institute for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research.

If you are interested in cider but haven?t tried many, this is the event for you. Presented by Barbur World Foods and Bushwhacker Cider, the summit features 60+ ciders from producers in Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, California, Michigan, England, France and Spain.

Here is the dog part ?New for 2013 is the addition of a ?dog lounge? hosted by DoveLewis, bicycle?valet from Go by Bike, a Cider Summit weekend hotel package from The Westin?Portland, and expanded food selections. Cider Summit will also feature a?collectible tasting glass this year, replacing the plastic stemware used in?previous events. The event will continue to feature live music and a ?bottles to?go? store onsite.

The owners and cider makers will be on hand to inform and guide guests through?the samplings which will be available in 4?ounce tasting portions. In addition to?the superb range of ciders, the event will feature live music, food from SE?Portland?s Ya Hala restaurant, sausages from Road Dog, and specially designed?filled chocolates from Smitten Truffles. Brewvana Brewery Tours will run a?continuous loop shuttle from SE Portland to the Park and Cider Summit NW also?encourages use of the Portland Streetcar to the event??We believe we?ve created a unique event,? added event co?founder Alan?Shapiro of SBS Imports. ?We have found a great home in the South Waterfront?neighborhood and we expect a terrific range of ciders. Interest in artisanal cider?is exploding right now, and this event is the premier sampling opportunity for?both the cider enthusiast and cider ?curious.?
